Is it #ThePakistanWay?
In the ever-evolving landscape of cricket, a new style of play has emerged, aptly coined "The Pakistan Way." We heard it first from one of the finest voices of Cricket and also well versed with Pakistan Cricket, Nasser Hussain, “The Mercurial Pakistan”. He further adds before start of Champions Trophy 2017 Semi Final vs England, “You don’t know about them on what day which Pakistan would turn up.” BazBall, PatBall, and now this #ThePakistanWay as catchy and as ditto versions as they might seem. They all stem from the same driving force i.e., being clear about the way they going to approach the game & moderate the flow of the game. Now if it leads to England losing from being 180/1 in their first innings at Lord’s and end up losing...
From Karachi to Galle: The magnificent rise of Saud Shakeel
Pakistan recently secured Galle fort in the ongoing Test match series against Sri Lanka, with an outstanding performance led by the Player of the Match Saud Shakeel. Following in the footsteps of Abdullah Shafique from the previous year, Saud showcased his exceptional talent and determination, marking his first away series with an innings that will be unforgettable for many years to come. In the first Test, Pakistan faced the challenging task of surpassing Sri Lanka's score of 312 in the first innings, but their situation looked dire as they lost five wickets with just 101 runs on the board. However, a determined Saud Shakeel walked on to the field of Galle cricket stadium, followed soon by Agha Salman at the crease with him, and then...
Pakistan’s Roadmap to the 2023 ODI World Cup
I fully believe Babar Azam has the potential to hold that ODI World Cup trophy high and aloft under the night sky, in front of 100,000 buzzing Indians populating the grand Motera Stadium. I think about it a little too often for my own good, knowing I am setting myself up for disappointment and heartbreak, but I cannot help it. We all kindle that glimmer of hope deep down, even if we pretend we don’t: it’s the tragedy of being a sports fan, and the comedy of being a Pakistan fan. With only 2 years to go, it is time we generated a clear vision of what our strengths are, what our weaknesses are, and what the wishlist is. A clear roadmap is necessary on our way forward, and one would like to think the likes of Babar Azam and Mohammad...
Musings on the Babar Azam era and importance of setting the tone.
It's been under 24 hours since Pakistan's surreal 10 wicket victory over India, which inevitably broke our World Cup jinx - something that felt like it had existed since the very beginning of time. Hearts are full. There is a renewed sense of belief. It is unbelievable to think how much can change within a span of 30 odd overs. It's easy to forget Pakistan's preparation for this tournament was less than ideal. Their coaches Misbah and Waqar had a rather unglamorous exit. The incumbent chairman, Ramiz Raja roared in with a series of bold statements which most supporters felt did little more than add pressure onto an already crumbly unit. England & New Zealand, two of Pakistan's supposed friends in the international circuit, chose to...
A Special Night For King Babar
Pakistan defeated West Indies in the first ODI by virtue of Babar Azam's record breaking century in liaise with Khushdil Shah's sizzling cameo. Babar Azam scored a century in the first ODI to escort his team to victory while putting his name on the history book on the way. We can now already start the debate if The King has now a claim as the GOAT batsman of Pakistan ODI history. But let us put aside that debate for a bit and shed a light on his previous innings' accolades. Babar is now the first ever batsman in the history of ODIs to score 3 consecutive centuries on two separate occasions. Previously, as a young prodigy back then, he became the second batsman in ODI history to score 3 consecutive tons against West Indies back in 2016...
Sarfraz Ahmed – The Fallen Captain
As we see Sarfraz sitting in the Quetta dugout looking like a broken shell of a man – you cannot help but wonder how things got so bad for a player who was once the poster boy of Pakistani cricket and could do no wrong. Sarfraz was earmarked as the future captain of the national team as he lead the Under 19 side to World Cup glory in 2006 in the most dramatic of fashions against the arch-rivals India in the final. In the 2015 ICC World Cup Sarfraz was selected in the playing XI to score the only Pakistani century of that competition and was being pitched as the saving grace for the Pakistani team as the line “Sarfraz dhoka nahi deyga” resonated in the mainstream and social media. In 2017 Sarfraz lead the Pakistani side to the ICC...
