Do they not deserve better?
I had a thought the other day that took me back to a question that I used to ask myself repeatedly since becoming a PCT fan, question being 'Do the fans not deserve better?' I just couldn't fathom the fact that a strong 225 million extremely passionate fan base was being put through humiliating heartbreak repeatedly by players and a board that we looked up to in particularly difficult times for Pakistani's in general. I mean, yeah there will be moments where this article will paint a doom and gloom aura, but this is to try and put the point forward as best as my limited creative ability will allow me to. Before I go forward, of course, I must stress, I don't want us to ignore the many achievements and jubilation our legends have...
Ihsanullah - A New Star is Born
Pakistan cricket and express paced fast bowlers, a match made in heaven. Often a cliché statement, in this instance it is very literal, considering the latest to join the rich fast bowling lineage is Ihsanullah, the boy from the stunning Swat valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Heading North from Islamabad, opens up a heavenly gateway of breathtaking natural sceneries. Swat Valley, often classed as the ‘Switzerland’ of Pakistan, is indeed a glimpse of paradise. A picturesque destination encapsulating the beautiful bounties of this world all together. Its pearl white, lush snow-capped icy mountains, majestic natural landscapes, high waterfalls, dazzling lakes and glaciers. The beautiful fresh ice cold breeze rising from the river...
The Night of Dreams in Dubai
It was certainly worth the wait. 29 years of heartache, anguish, torment, grief, and agony were emphatically over as Pakistan hammered their greatest arch-rivals, India, by 10 wickets with disdain, ironically at the infamous 13th attempt, except there was nothing lucky about this thrashing triumph. Sunday, 24th October 2021 had been bookmarked in the diary by hundreds of millions around the world and the glamorous spectacle was one to remember for generations to come. It ended up being one of the most colourful and cherished moments for Pakistani fans as their team cantered home to a dreamy win against their oldest enemy. All the odds were against Pakistan, having been deprived of any cricket with recent tour cancellations, whilst...
Arshad Nadeem's Golden Leap - A Village Boy's Olympic Odyssey
Arshad Nadeem, a name that will forever be etched in the annals of sporting history, a golden journey of meek poverty to the esteemed podium, perhaps Pakistan’s greatest sporting story. A long 40 years of anguish, patience and yearning were over as Arshad hurled a devastating 92.97m javelin throw to shatter the Olympic record and secure a glorious Gold medal. Their previous Gold medal was at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, Captain Sardar Hassan’s wonderful striking talent and exemplary leadership, famously taking Pakistan to their first ever Gold, beating West Germany 2-1 in the final. Enter Arshad Nadeem, the 27 year old’s historic, record breaking Gold medal in glamorous Paris epitomised a truly impossible journey of astonishing...
Shaan-e-Kashmir, Zaman Khan!
Bowling in the arid plains of a scatter of ill developed, ill thought out and unknown yet bustling villages of Chaskwari, Panyam, Arno, Arnyal Mora, Chapra, Pabbi amongst others, with specific focus on Kalyal, another vital village in this cluster. An unknown yet local superstar, Zaman Khan was bowling at the local batsmen, hitting their feet, legs and the base of the wicket with alarming regularity. As one of my village friends put it to me, "Bhai pat ni si jisla Zaman bowling karna si" (Bro, we would literally tremble when Zaman would come on to bowl). So you can imagine the fear he instilled in locals. Pictures from the famous Panyam Dyke where local sportsmen play cricket and netball regularly But don't be alarmed, off the...
Shaheen Ki Parvaaz
It was quite late into the rather breezy Sunday evening, when Arshad Iqbal shattered the stumps of Rajvardhan Hangargekar for the second last wicket of the monumental collapse of arch-rivals India in the Emerging Asia Cup 2023, coincidentally again in a Final. But then suddenly, the camera turned towards none other than Shaheen Shah Afridi, who as per his birth documents should have still been an emerging player but he decided to grow many years to become one of the finest men to be playing international cricket with the big boys already. He was here supporting the young guns, and hard to say, who is on the field and who is cheering the other buddy up. Sana Mir just like the iconic off breaks during her own playing days, threw an...
